The back-to-back WePlay Academy League champions, MOUZ NXT, will kick off the third season against the newly-formed Eternal Fire Academy. The Turkish squad are an unknown thread, with no official matches on their record, and we don’t know much about their players either, making it hard to say how this game will go.

However, we know how good MOUZ NXT can be. They placed top-four at Malta Vibes Knockout Series #4 in December and reached the quarter-finals of Pinnacle Fall Series #3 a couple of weeks prior, further confirming this is a very strong academy roster.

Given their past success, MOUZ NXT should be considered one of the main favourites to win their third WePlay Academy League title, and it’s doubtful for a team like Eternal Fire Academy to stop them. There is a world where MOUZ NXT stumble a bit since this is their first match in almost a month, but the quality gap makes it hard to bet against them.

VP.Prodigy have played only three games with their current roster and have managed a 1-2 record, with a win against eSuba (2-0) and two defeats against ROYALS (0-2) and VELOX (1-2). That’s hardly inspiring knowing that VP.Prodigy ended the last WePlay Academy season in sixth place and won only one of five outings.

FURIA Academy were even less convincing with their performances in October when they finished the second WePlay Academy League season in last place without a single win. And to make matters worse, FURIA parted ways with Lucas “honda” Honda and Guilherme “piria” Barbosa at the end of last year.

Both squads are in terrible shape, and the recent roster changes surely won’t help them find any stability early on. This match seems like a complete coin flip, so we have to side with the outsiders.

?This is a must-win match for both High Coast Esports and VP.Prodigy, as both are winless this tournament and sit only one loss away from elimination. High Coast’s two losses came against Winstrike (0-2) and Tundra Esports (1-2), while VP.Prodigy had to admit defeat to Vikin.gg (0-2) and Dota Team (1-2).

Neither side has looked very good of late, so it is weird to see such a big gap in the odds at esports betting sites. VP.Prodigy might be a weaker team overall, but they should steal at least one map.

?Brame enter this match on the heels of two impressive wins against HellRaisers and Team Unique, which we should value slightly higher than Team Spirit’s triumphs against Dota Team and Winstrike. But even though Brame had to face tougher teams in those bouts, that does not necessarily mean they are stronger than Spirit.

Brame are 15-1-5 since the start of February, which might look good on paper, but they have not faced any tough opponents. Team Spirit are 4-2 across the last month and 8-0-13 in their last 21 outings, but they have had to play the likes of Natus Vincere, Team Secret and Virtus.pro.

We won’t overcomplicate it. Team Spirit are the stronger team and shouldn’t lose games like this one.

Sinners Esports last met with VP.Prodigy just over a month ago when they won 2-1. They have since played seven games and won all but one against Infinite Gaming (10-16) on Wednesday. VP.Prodigy, on the other hand, played out eight games in that stretch and lost six, which includes all of their last three.

Even though VP.Prodigy stole one map off Sinners last time out, we are not convinced they can achieve the same feat on Saturday, especially after the departure of Aleksandr “mefixs” Ilukhin. Sinners to win 2-0 at $1.67 (with the top esports betting sites) is a good bet.

Since the complete roster rebuild in May, Vexed have yet to achieve any notable results. They enter this match with a 2-3 record from their last five outings, which is not bad, but considering they have not played a single official match in almost a month, they’re likely a bit ring rusty.

Like Vexed, Case have not been active since December, when they pocketed a silver medal at the Esport Tour Pro Winter 2020, which is a fairly impressive result for a team of their calibre.

Due to their success in December, it’s fair to say Case should win this match more times than not, but considering there will be some ring rust on both sides, we expect a more open game. In such situations, momentum plays a massive role, which usually sees a team that wins the first map close out the series with 2-0.

VP.PRODIGY vs FLYTOMOON WEPLAY! PUSHKA LEAGUE S1: DIVISION 1 BETTING PREVIEW

VP.Prodigy and FlyToMoon will clash for the second time ever this Wednesday on day seven of Division 1 matches in the WePlay! Pushka League.

Launched at the start of April, VP.Prodigy are Virtus.pro’s new Dota2 academy team. The current lineup consists of ex-HellRaisers player Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin, ex-Singularity support Albert “eine” Garaev, two former VP players in carry Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko and Vitalie “Save-” Melnic, with Rostislav “fn” Lozovoi standing in at no.2.

The team have enjoyed a reasonable amount of success in their early endeavours. They picked up titles at Gaming World and the StayHome Challenge, to which they added successful runs through Parimatch League Season 2 Relegation and the WePlay! Pushka League Season 1: CIS Qualifier.

Most recently, VP.Prodigy were seen competing at Epic Prime League Season 1, where they are currently sitting at the third place with a 2-1 record. Their only loss of the tournament so far came against the main Virtus.pro roster, while Save- and co. picked up two commanding wins over Winstrike Team and Team Spirit.

While it is early days, the VP.Prodigy project appears to be paying dividends. Indeed, they already have the wood over FlyToMoon, who have been all over the place this year.

We saw some of the best of FTM at Parimatch League Season 2. Although they lost in round one of the playoffs, they bounced back with a clean sweep against Winstrike and a revenge win over HellRaisers before rallying from 0-2 down to beat Virtus.pro in the grand finals.

On the flip side, FlyToMoon showed nothing of note at the StayHome Challenge. Two 0-2 losses against Vikin.gg and VP.Prodigy meant Andrey “ALWAYSWANNAFLY” Bondarenko and his team had to settle for the bronze medal, which was decidedly underwhelming for a team that had already won two minor titles in 2020.

FTM are also participating at Epic Prime League Season 1, where they have claimed 2-0 wins over B8 and Winstrike but suffered a 1-2 loss against Cyber Legacy. On Sunday they copped a 1-2 defeat against the Virtus.pro first team in the Pushka League, although FlyToMoon’s performance in that clash should give them confidence as they prepare to face VP’s academy side.

VP.Prodigy enter this match as heavy favourites, but perhaps esports bookmakers have put too much emphasis on the teams’ recent meeting at the StayHome Challenge. That match was much closer than the final result would suggest, as the two sides secured 22 kills apiece in the first game and FTM blew a substantial lead in the second.

The difference between these teams is not nearly as huge as the odds would imply, which makes siding with FlyToMoon at $2.35 a great value bet. You could take the safer option and back FTM with a +1.5 map handicap, but the $1.43 odds are nowhere near as attractive as those on offer for the outright win.

The new project, dubbed VP.Prodigy, will help the Russian esports organisation scout for young talent while giving their fringe players a chance to attain professional experience without the enormous pressure of needing achieving instant results. VP.Prodigy players will also have a chance to prove themselves and earn promotion to the main roster.

“The thought of the second lineup came to us back in January, however, only after the Leipzig series had it become more than just an inkling,” said Sergey Glamazda, General Manager at Virtus.pro.

“The idea is fairly simple: the second lineup allows young players to attain professional scene experience and knowledge without the enormous pressure of instant result expectation. The club has acquired players that might join the main roster later – or even replace it completely in the long run.”

The inaugural VP.Prodigy Dota2 roster features two ex-Virtus.pro members in Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko and Vitaly “Save-” Melnik, who left the main roster at the start of February. The young duo will now have a chance to hone their skills and cultivate the potential they have already displayed since they arrived at the team in autumn of 2019. Joining Save- and epileptick1d at VP.Prodigy are Rostislav “fn” Lozovoi, Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin and Albert “yume” Garayev.

Fn is the oldest and the most experienced member of Virtus.pro’s new Dota project. The 25-year-old Ukrainian pro launched his Dota2 career in March 2014 with Insane Gaming and has since played for Nightcore, Little Busters 4ever, newteam123123, PRIES Gaming, Arcade.PowerRangers, Vega Squadron, Team Empire, Virtus.pro and Gambit Esports. Although he is yet to lift the Aegis of Champions, fn’s career accolades include gold at Adrenaline Cyber League 2019 and ROG MASTERS 2017, silver at StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 1 and a seventh-eighth finish at The International 2017.

DM’s career is far shorter, but that has not stopped him from making his presence known in the top tier of Dota2 esports. The Russian offlaner claimed bronze at DOTA Summit 11 with HellRaisers and later made an appearance at the Leipzig Major with Chaos Esports Club, although they failed to make it past round one of the playoffs.

Yume began his Dota2 career in March 2017 and has since played for Double Dimension, M19, SFTe-sports, Gambit Esports, Team Empire and Team Singularity, who announced the disbandment of their Dota2 roster last week.

Fn will play as a stand-in, which suggests he will be replaced as soon as VP.Prodigy find a young and promising talent to fit in with the rest of the team.

VP.Prodigy’s debut will come at the US $15,000 GGBET StayHome Challenge, which will feature eight Dota2 teams from Europe and the CIS region. The tournament will run from April 1-12 and the team’s debut is scheduled for Thursday, April 2 against Danil “Dendi” Ishutin’s team B8, who recently signed ex-Singularity carry Steve “Excalibur” Ye to their roster.
